Location: the Tsunami Resource Center (TRC) located in Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh
Reporting: Head of Disaster Risk Reduction Department, MERCY Malaysia (MM) HQ
Position: Programme Coordinator (consultant)
Duration: July – December 2008 (7 months)
Duties and responsibility
- Develop a plan and implement the programmes in TRC in collaboration with Syiah Kuala University , other local partners and MM HQ in KL
- Provide a lecture on DRR as trainer or facilitator at events conducted at TRC
- Organize meetings and workshops including preparing invitations and information, providing the participants from inside and outside of Indonesia with necessary logistical assistance
- Liaise with local partners including the local governments, UN agencies, NGOs and the beneficiaries to collect information on the DRR activities by them and report the MM’s DRR efforts in TRC
- Represent MM and participate in meetings and workshops on DRR issues
- Communicate regularly with HQ staff in English through emails and telephone and report the progress when required
- Provide written and verbal interpretation and translation capacity as required
- Ensure the smooth operation of TRC in coordination with Syiah Kuala University preparing the monthly financial and activity report
- Prepare the minutes and proceedings in English
Requirements
Ø Bachelor Degree in social science or other relevant subject
Ø At least 2 years of relevant work experience
Ø Excellent oral and written communication in both English and Indonesian
Ø Good social and interpersonal skills
Ø Good knowledge of NGOs and governments
Ø Good computer skills
Ø Ability and willingness to work flexibly in a sometimes difficult and stressful environment
